Top office design trends for 2019

Welcome to the experience-driven workspace – coming soon to an office near you.

Yes, the yoga space has moved beyond the gimmick and will be a much-loved fixture at many new workspaces of the future.

And office greenery is also evolving – with vertical gardens now so popular that they are becoming far more experimental, moving beyond pot plants to mosses and grasses and everything in between.

See what else is in store with these top office design trends of 2019.

Trend #1: Experience-driven spaces to boost employees

They may seem fun, but new research by Ambius shows that experience-driven spaces are packing a serious productivity punch when it comes to connecting employees and boosting their comfort, wellness and motivation to perform.

In 2019, expect larger offices to level up on their in-house fitness/yoga/meditation studios and add staff espresso bars, massage facilities and health practitioner consultation spaces, music stages and more.  Read more in Ambius

Trend #2: First in, best dressed…the pack-up-and-go workspace

With the influx of mobile technology and faster, more reliable online networks and cloud computing, the dedicated desk will not be the must-have it once was.

Many government agencies, banks and larger workplaces are shifting towards fully open desks, where employees simply plug in or dock their laptops wherever they see fit for the day or hour, and set about their work.

Expect to see more work hubs with a mix of free-for-all sitting and standing desks, private nooks and large collaboration spaces where staff can work flexibly better to meet the needs of their days and how they are feeling.

Take a look at NAB, where even executives don’t have their own desks. Read more about NAB’s flexible workspaces here

Trend #3: Continued rise of the LED

Improvements in LED lighting technology over recent years has quietly taken office design and fit out to another level – and 2019 is the LED’s time to really shine. Expect to see more beautifully backlit relaxation nooks, wood ceiling panels transformed into artworks by hidden lamps, lights cascading from ceilings and down walls…the possibilities are endless. Energy-efficient and slimline for those tight, hidden spaces, watch these little lighting gems change our workspaces for the better over 2019.
